LAS VEGAS (June 16, 2015)—Wynn Resorts announced today that it has contributed $25,000 to the Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) to support water quality monitoring and habitat restoration programs in the Mystic River Watershed. The sponsorship of these two important initiatives demonstrates Wynn’s commitment to improve and protect the local natural resources near the site of the $1.6 billion Wynn Resort in Everett.

“This contribution underscores our commitment to improve and enhance environmental conditions in the Mystic River watershed. In that regard, MyRWA makes a difference,” said Robert DeSalvio, President of Wynn Everett. “Wynn Resorts is happy to be part of a growing number of private and public partners that support this work and we look forward to many years of successful collaboration.”

The 33-acre Wynn Resort site is on the banks of the Mystic River in Everett. Wynn is expected to spend $20 to $30 million to clean up the contaminated former chemical-plant site that has been inaccessible and unusable to the public for more than 100 years. No public funds will be used to remediate the site which is leaching contaminants into the Mystic River daily.

“The work of Wynn Resorts to restore the former Monsanto Chemical site will transform this property from a blighted brownfield and significantly improve environmental conditions in the Mystic River watershed,” said Ek Ong Kar Singh Khalsa, MyRWA Executive Director. “The company’s additional determination to build a living shoreline—creating new saltmarsh and restored tideland areas at the site—is a game changer for the Mystic. We are grateful for Wynn’s generous support and for the confidence in our programs that this contribution represents.”

Since 1972, with its many partners and tireless volunteers, the Mystic River Watershed Association has, since 1972, worked to transform the Mystic River watershed into a vibrant, healthy and accessible

natural environment. MyRWA’s mission is to clean up the rivers, lakes and streams of the Mystic River watershed and to connect people with these valuable local natural resources.

Current MyRWA programs include the Mystic River Water Quality Monitoring and Improvement Network, community Water Chestnut Removal programs, Mystic River Herring Monitoring and the annual Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle.
